THE SOCCER RULES

In the beginning of the 19th century, a people's game that has been around ever since medieval times started becoming more and more popular in England: soccer. Back then soccer was played using ad-hoc pitches and most teams were formed either because they were part of the same village, organization, factory or whatnot.

Obviously, these guys were playing along to some basic soccer rules, but without a referee to enforce them, or clear specifications to these rules. For example, what would have been considered a foul in Liverpool might have been accepted as a fair tackle in London.

Since soccer sparks some pretty intense competition at times, playing it without a lot of strict rules and without a referee to enforce them caused serious troubles in mid 19th century England. Soccer fights became something that was seen as normal and they gave the game an aura of violence that in truth it didn't deserve.

By 1860, soccer clubs were already popping up in England, especially around London and they were becoming semi-professional, as the competition level started rising.

This caused most of the London clubs to meet in the Freemasons' Tavern in London on 26 October 1863, forming the Football Association (FA), which is still the governing soccer organization in England. They decided that they would need certain rules for the game of soccer if they were to keep on playing competitively.

By the second meeting on the 8th of December 1863, they decided to draw up the plans for the Laws of the Game, which is a sort of constitution holding all of the rules for soccer up till this date, with some modifications.

In view of heavy graphic works and production schedules involved, the making is expected to run for about a year or even more. BEIJING (AP) -- Even at his lowest sporting moment, Akhil Kumar was buoyed by love for his unrelated brothers.

The bantamweight had just botched an opportunity to clinch India's first Olympic boxing medal, losing in an upset to a young, inexperienced Moldovan opponent. Yet Akhil knew his reaction would affect his two teammates who still must fight - two longtime friends from the same hometown with the same dreams of rewriting India's dismal Olympic history.

So for Vijender Kumar and Jitender Kumar, Akhil kept his shaved head high. "I cannot be unhappy, because I feel so strongly that my teammates will do what I couldn't," Akhil said. The trio aren't related, but their bond is something thicker than blood. They're all from Bhiwani, a quiet city of about 130,000 in northern India with an unusual cluster of boxing clubs in a nation obsessed with cricket and fairly uninterested in any Olympic sport. "I hate cricket," said Vijender, the 22-year-old middleweight with a head of wavy Bollywood-star hair. "I don't like the traditional Indian sports. I hope our boxing here will make more people like it instead of cricket." India took notice when Akhil beat world champion bantamweight Sergey Vodopyanov of Russia last week - on India's independence day, no less. Vijender and Jitender followed up with preliminary-round victories that were remarkable for a team with such limited experience and low expectations. Although Akhil failed in his chance to make history for a country with 1.1 billion people and just 16 total Olympic medals, 11 of them in hockey, India's five-man boxing team is breaking ground with every punch. "They are all lions," said their coach, Gurbakhsh Sandhu. "I am very proud of these boxers. Every victory has been an amazing thing." The 30-year-old Akhil, with his extra experience and a fearless, sometimes foolhardy fighting style, seems to be the classic alpha-male athlete. Bindra also wrote in support of India's fighters, and another blog entry expressed most Indian athletes' thoughts about the nation's lack of Olympic commitment. "It is important for India to do better at Olympic sport as these are the true measure of a nation's sporting depth," Bindra wrote. "The joy that the nation feels at my win is humbling. I just wish that this is repeated more and more often. With our depth of talent and expanse of people, I firmly believe India can be a world-class sporting power." Bindra called for better corporate backing and governmental commitment to Olympic sports, a desire echoed by Akhil while he was still recovering from his loss. "We should start thinking about the 2012 Olympics right now," Akhil said. "We are thinking about the 2010 Commonwealth Games, but we never think about the Olympics. It is when India failed to qualify in hockey that we came to (realize) there is something called Olympics. Why is China coming up so fast in sports? Because they prepare well ahead." He'll be back at Workers' Gymnasium on Wednesday when Jitender takes on Russian flyweight Georgy Balakshin, likely the gold medal favorite in their weight class. The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10 p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.

By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 a.m. That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share this with your children and grandchildren. Sushil Kumar made history on Wednesday as he gave India a second medal in the same Olympics for the first time in 56 years.

The wrestler won the bronze medal in the freestyle 66 kg category in the repechage round after he lost his first round match this morning.

This is the first time since the 1952 Helsinki Games that India have won two medals in the same Olympics.

Sushil's campaign seemed nearly over when he lost his first round battle against eventual silver medallist Andriy Stadnik but repechage provided him a ray of hope and the Indian proved simply irresistible as he beat three grapplers on the trot to win the bronze.

Down in the dumps after his opening round defeat, Sushil came up with an incredible show, beating Doug Schwab (USA), Albert Batyrov (Belarus) and finally the losing semifinalist Leonid Spiridonov (Kazakhstan) in the repechage rounds to earn his slice of history.

Sushil thus became the second Indian wrestler after K D Jadhav who won a bronze in the 1952 Helsinki Games to win an Olympic medal.

Incidentally, in the 2006 Doha Asian Games also, Sushil had beaten Leonid to win the bronze.

Against Leonid, Sushil grabbed early initiative by scoring two technical points that proved decisive in the end.

Though the Kazakh grappler scored one in the second period and managed to thwart Sushil, the Indian proved his superiority again in the third period and eventually prevailed 3-2 to trigger frenzied celebration among the Indians present at the Chinese Agricultural University here.

Neninthe is going to have a unique storyline and hero

his last three movies Desamuduru, Chirutha and Bujjigadu.

YS Jagan, who is a successful businessman in Bangalore is making his
steps right to enter tollywood film industry. Though he has a well built

debut as a hero. Instead he is making his debut as a producer for a film

Whereas results will be sooner when compared to last year , as JNTU
decreases the time lag every year.
the ranking procedure is as follows

i. Candidates shall be ranked in the order of merit in the EAMCET-2008
on the aggregate marks. In case of a tie, marks obtained in
Biology, in case of further tie, marks obtained in Physics, shall be taken
into account to decide the relative ranking. In case of candidates getting
equal marks in these subjects, they shall be bracketed for purpose of award
of ranking, and at the time of admission, the total percentage of marks
secured by the candidate in the qualifying examination shall be taken
into consideration.
On further tie, age shall be taken into consideration, the older candidate
being given priority.
ii. Rank obtained in EAMCET-2008 is valid for admission to the
courses mentioned in the application form, for the academic
year 2008-2009 only.
iii. Rank card will be posted to the candidate’s address as given in the
application.
iv. Rank obtained with the benefit of relaxation of the minimum
qualifying marks at EAMCET-2008 by any candidate claiming to
belong to SC/ST Category will be cancelled in case the claim is found
to be invalid at the time of admission to any course of study in any
participating Universities / Institutions QUALIFYING MARKS FOR
EAMCET – 2008
The qualifying percentage of marks in the EAMCET-2008 is 25%
(40 out of a total 160). However, for candidates belonging to Scheduled
Castes and Scheduled Tribes, no minimum qualifying mark is prescribed.
But their admission will be limited to the extent of seats reserved for
such categories (Vide G.O.Ms. No. 179, LEN&TE, dated 16.06.1986)
